Inflation down to 3% according to flash estimate

According to a flash estimate by Statistics Austria, the inflation rate in Austria is continuing to fall. It stood at three percent in June.

This is the lowest figure since July 2021. In May, year-on-year inflation was still at 3.4 percent. "Prices for food and fuel in particular are currently boosting inflation less than recently," said Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas in a press release on Tuesday.

Price increases in gastronomy "still above average"
The price increases in the catering sector were also lower than in previous months, but "remain well above average", explained the head of Statistics Austria. According to the preliminary flash estimate, the harmonized inflation rate (HICP) for Austria, calculated for eurozone comparisons, was 3.2 percent in June.

Pet food has recently proved to be a particular price driver. These have become 40 percent more expensive in some cases.
