“Dubious shouts from SPÖ leader Mario Leiter”

After SPÖ leader Mario Leiter presented his 5-point program for more affordable housing, ÖVP housing spokesperson Harald Witwer is apparently fuming with anger. "Even though the state elections are just around the corner, you should be able to expect a leading opposition candidate to be reasonably realistic in his proposals."

Witwer is particularly annoyed by the five-figure number of non-profit apartments Leiter mentions that are to be built in the coming legislative period. "Unfortunately, Mario Leiter fails to provide an answer as to how this is to be achieved. This is pure announcement politics - of the worst and most dubious kind," rages Witwer.

He also refers to the federal government's housing package and the state's special housing program (Wohnen 550), which is intended to benefit young people and singles in particular. "There is a refurbishment and redensification offensive. At the same time, 600 non-profit apartments are under construction."

SPÖ rejects proposal
The NEOS were also surprised by Leiter's proposals. "It was only in November that the SPÖ rejected a motion concerning the creation of property and affordable housing for young people," notes pink housing spokesperson Fabienne Lackner.
