Drunk Jaguar driver crashes into furniture store

A spectacular accident occurred early Thursday evening in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen, which borders Vorarlberg. In Schwarzenach near Wil, a 62-year-old man crashed his Jaguar SUV backwards into the display window of an Austrian furniture store chain, causing enormous damage. 

At around 5.55 p.m., a 62-year-old man was driving his red Jagura F-Pace in the parking lot of an Austrian furniture store chain. He lost control of his SUV while pulling out of the parking space and reversed over several pieces of furniture that were on display outside.

He then drove his car into the shop window and a bit into the store. The shop window and other furniture and goods were damaged. The damage amounted to several tens of thousands of euros.

A breathalyzer test carried out at the scene gave the man a blood alcohol level of 1.54 per mille. The 62-year-old's driver's license was confiscated on the spot and he faces charges.
