Slipped on snow field in Tyrol: Alpinist dead

Mountain drama in the Tyrolean Außerfern! A German (60) could only be rescued dead on Friday morning. A snow field was apparently his undoing.

The 60-year-old had not returned from a mountain tour on Thursday. Relatives then raised the alarm and reported the man missing. "After a search operation on Friday shortly after 11 a.m., around 300 meters below the summit of the Köllenspitze in the municipality of Musau, the man could only be found dead," said the police.

Crashed 100 meters over rocks
According to the current state of the investigation, the man probably slipped on a snow field and subsequently fell about 100 meters over rocky terrain.
