US President Joe Biden did not travel on to the Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland after the G7 summit on Saturday, but instead jetted off to Los Angeles. While Vice President Kamala Harris attended the conference, Biden's agenda included a dinner with Hollywood stars.

The dinner was intended to fill his campaign coffers. Biden's team announced that the event had already raised 28 million US dollars (equivalent to 26.1 million euros) in advance. Former President Barack Obama, actors George Clooney and Jack Black and their colleague Julia Roberts were among those expected to attend the event.

All those present were "enthusiastic" supporters of the US President, it was said. "Leading personalities from the entertainment industry" would "send a clear signal", the campaign team announced.

Biden was accompanied on his arrival in Los Angeles by family members, including daughter Ashley and granddaughters Maisy and Naomi. The granddaughters had already been with the President in Italy, where they had met Pope Francis, among others.

The US President, who is running for another term in office, had traveled to Italy for the G7 summit in Apulia.

The other participants traveled straight on from there to Switzerland for the Ukraine peace conference on Saturday. The USA will be represented by Vice President Kamala Harris.
