The revitalization of the Kniepass near Unken is costing the state of Salzburg millions. Under the new name "Fort Kniepass", an adventure center is to be built in the Saalachtal valley. An entire forest has now been cleared for this purpose.

"A major investment that will make the Saalachtal even more attractive", is how Governor Wilfried Haslauer described the "Fort Kniepass" project at the start of construction in October. The name, which could have been taken from a western, refers to the renovation of the weir system on the Kniepass in Unken. The revitalization, which should have started in 2021, is costing the state a lot.
