Missiles launched
North Korea tests “super-sized warhead”
According to North Korea, it tested a "super-sized warhead" for a strategic cruise missile on Friday. A new type of anti-aircraft missile was also launched, the state news agency KCNA reported on Saturday.
It is assumed that the North Korean cruise missile of the Hwasal-1 Ra-3 type is designed to carry a nuclear warhead. The tests in the West Sea are part of the regular activities of the administration and its related defense science institutes to rapidly advance technology development and the operation of new weapons systems, the KCNA report said.
They are not related to the regional situation. Japan and the United States, which frequently report on major missile tests by North Korea, did not comment on the tests. South Korea's military spoke of several cruise missiles and anti-aircraft missiles fired by North Korea.
Observers see the tests as a deepening of military cooperation with Russia. The countries are united by their anti-US stance - Moscow is said to purchase ammunition from North Korea.
