Olympic qualifying success
Off to Paris! Austria also in the Madison
Austria has qualified for the Olympic track cycling competitions in Paris in the Omnium and Madison. Four Viennese will be competing for precious metal this summer.
Tim Wafler had secured his quota place in the omnium at the Nations Cup in Milton (Canada) and now, as hoped, his place in the madison has also become official. "It was definitely a team effort and I'm really proud of all four of my athletes that we did it together," national coach Andreas Graf was quoted as saying in a press release.
This refers to the four Viennese athletes Felix Ritzinger (27 years old), Maximilian Schmidbauer (22), Wafler (22) and Raphael Kokas (19). Omnium is a multi-discipline event contested by one athlete. In the Madison, a two-man team is at the start. "They have developed really well over the last two years and I'm looking forward to preparing for Paris with them," said Graf.
