Woman (18) threatened with gun because man wanted sex

Terrifying scenes in Oberwart in Burgenland: a young woman managed to escape from an apartment in broad daylight and a witness called the police. The victim is said to have been held down and brutally beaten. A man threatened her with a weapon in order to force her to have sex. The accused is in custody.

The shocking incident, which caused a stir in the Roma settlement in Oberwart, took place last Saturday at lunchtime. While there was a rush of visitors and hustle and bustle nearby to celebrate the new Burgenland clinic, a local resident was startled by the cries of a desperate woman.

"Help, help!"
"I was cooking when I heard the loud cries for help in English. The young woman was wandering around the street, crying bitterly and shaking all over," the witness reported in an interview with the "Krone" newspaper.

The shock was deep
In a voice filled with fear, the 18-year-old reported that she had been detained in an apartment. A man had beaten her and threatened her with a Kalashnikov because he wanted her to have sex, she said.

In the middle of the shocking accounts, the suspect left the house with a companion. The two suspects hurriedly made off. The witness alerted the police.

Weapon, ammunition discovered
The two men, also from Kosovo, were quickly tracked down. A house search was carried out at the same time. "Many police officers were deployed. They even searched the roof," said a local resident. A Kalashnikov was not found, but a small-caliber rifle that was hidden under junk in the garden was. The police also seized a lot of ammunition.

"Three intoxicated with cocaine" 
According to the 18-year-old, the owner and the two Kosovan nationals had consumed cocaine in the apartment where she was detained the night before. The man from Burgenland (28) soon disappeared, the woman explained. She later suffered fears for her life.

Suspect arrested
The 45-year-old suspect is currently being held in Eisenstadt prison because he is a flight risk. The situation in the Roma settlement is tense. "Strangers have been turning up here regularly for months and are not creating a good atmosphere," say several residents. On Monday morning, the worried residents want to turn to the mayor for help.
