Wrong-way driver in Vienna: driver had a blood alcohol level of two!

On Easter Monday, a 32-year-old Ukrainian was driving his car on the wrong lane in Vienna-Floridsdorf with a blood alcohol level of around two. When the man was stopped by the police, he suddenly fled on foot. During the arrest, he also injured an officer. The man also faces several charges. 

Officers became aware of the 32-year-old's vehicle on Katsushikastrasse at around 9.15 p.m. The man was driving his car against the prescribed direction of travel. Despite the blue lights being switched on, the driver did not stop at first - the vehicle only came to a standstill in the Horst Winter-Promenade area. 

Alcohol test showed two per mille
There was a passenger in the car alongside the 32-year-old. The Ukrainian had neither a driver's license nor vehicle documents with him when he was stopped. "The driver was asked to get out of the car and take a breathalyzer test," the Vienna police announced on Tuesday. The alcohol test showed two per mille! 

Police officer had to leave duty
The man then tried to flee on foot - but did not get far. In an attempt to stop the 32-year-old, he attacked the officers, injuring one person in the process. The police officer was unable to continue his duties. 

The Ukrainian was provisionally arrested for attempted resistance to public authority and grievous bodily harm. He received several charges.
