Due to foehn storm
Tree fell on moving car: two injured
A scary moment for a 65-year-old driver and her 69-year-old co-driver in Unken im Pinzgau: while driving on the B178 towards Salzburg on Monday morning, a tree fell onto the moving car.
"That's not an everyday occurrence," says local fire brigade commander Thomas Brandmaier. A coniferous tree buckled on Easter Monday due to the Föhn storm and hit a Suzuki on the Loferer Bundesstraße that was traveling towards Salzburg. According to the police, the driver and passenger were able to free themselves from the deformed car. Both were slightly injured and taken to hospital by the ambulance service.
Stones break loose during fire department operation
"A birch tree would have caused more damage," estimates Brandmaier, whose men from the Unken volunteer fire department cleared the scene of the accident. During the operation, there was another moment of shock: stones came loose above the accident site. However, the falling debris could be caught by a slope safety net. The road maintenance department and the state geology department were informed. The affected road was completely closed for around two hours.
