The popular viewing platform at Vienna-Schwechat Airport is to be removed due to the major expansion of the south terminal. Aviation fans are outraged.

For aviation enthusiasts, it is a must-see when visiting the airport - the visitor terrace above Terminal 3. Since an extension in 2016, the terrace has been 306 meters long and offers a spectacular 180-degree view, which even allows you to see cargo aircraft positions. It is currently still closed due to the winter closure. Next Monday, on April 1, it will reopen - for the last time for the time being, as is feared.

The airport is currently undergoing major expansion. New common areas, shopping and catering areas, 18 new bus gates and a central security checkpoint are being built on 70,000 square meters. The southern expansion is due to be completed by 2027. There will then be no more room for the popular viewing platform, as aviation enthusiasts have reported.

However, Vienna Airport has now confirmed to "Krone" that a terrace area is also planned for the roof of the new building. From today's perspective, the opening hours will not change. As every year, the terrace will be open from April 1st to the end of October before the start of the winter season. However, there are no exact details yet.
