Salzburg had the highest rents in 2023!
There is no relief in sight on the housing market: evaluations by Statistics Austria show that Salzburg is the nationwide leader in rents. And rents rose again in 2023 compared to the previous year.
11.30 euros per square meter warm, 8.70 euros cold: Salzburg was Austria's leader in rents last year. It was closely followed by Tyrol (EUR 10.90 warm) and Vorarlberg (EUR 10.70 warm) and, a little further behind, Vienna (EUR 9.80 warm).
Average residential rents including operating costs continued to rise throughout Austria in the fourth quarter of 2023, increasing by 6.7% compared to the same period in the previous year (October to December 2022). The increases are "significantly less pronounced than in the previous quarters", according to Statistics Austria. There are 1.78 million main residences in Austria. Burgenland is the cheapest place to live. Here, the warm rent is 7.20 euros, which is 2.20 euros below the national average.
