Out after 29 years
After twelve years at Freiburg: Streich quits!
A bang in the German Bundesliga! Christian Streich will leave SC Freiburg at the end of the season. The 58-year-old made the announcement on Monday.
"We thought about it for a long time, talked for a long time, but I believe that after 29 years, now is the right time to make room for new energy, new people and new opportunities," explained the coach of ÖFB legionnaire Michael Gregoritsch on the ninth-placed team's social media channels. "It was already very important to me in the past that I didn't miss the moment when I thought it was right to leave." That time has now come. The club is his life and he is grateful for the great support and affection from the fans and the team.
Streich's departure marks the end of an era. Born in Baden-Württemberg, Streich took over as head coach in December 2011, having previously worked as assistant and youth coach at Freiburg. The name Streich has been an integral part of the Breisgau team since 1995.
