"Knows what he's up to"
Niclas Füllkrug reveals Nagelsmann’s squad details
In an interview after Dortmund's 2:1 win over Werder Bremen, Niclas Füllkrug talked about the upcoming European Championship at home in Germany and revealed how national coach Julian Nagelsmann proceeds when it comes to squad nominations.
"Sometimes you're contacted a little earlier, sometimes not at all, because then it's a given that you'll be there. Nobody in this squad should feel too safe," the BVB striker told Sky. "I think it's also really cool to have a competitive situation like this again, where the lads all really want to prove themselves in order to play for the national team. That will be important. Nevertheless, you need a certain framework, which is of course also important to compete in a tournament like this."
Füllkrug "definitely involved"
According to expert Lothar Matthäus, Füllkrug himself does not have to worry about his place in the European Championship squad. "Niclas will definitely be there," the 62-year-old is convinced.
However, Füllkrug will keep a close eye on the situation before he knows for sure. "Of course, I follow our national coach's interviews very closely and that's why I know what he's up to." The 2024 European Championship will take place from June 14 to July 14, with the opening match between Germany and Scotland taking place in Munich's Allianz Arena and Austria's national team making its first appearance on June 17 against top favorites France.
