Attack on "Krone":
Akademikerball demonstrator attacks camera!
"Sneak away from the demo!" A demonstrator at the Akademikerball tried to threaten the "Krone" reporter team with verbal abuse. The atmosphere was so heated on Friday evening that the man attacked a video camera at the closing rally on St. Stephen's Square in Vienna.
When the "Krone" reporter team was filming footage, one of the demonstrators apparently felt he was being followed. He turned towards the camera and tried to hit it. "Don't film me!" shouted the angry demonstrator. A reporter had to intervene.
He tried to defuse the situation and asked for calm. Reason enough for another masked demonstrator to ask the journalists to "sneak away" from the demonstration.
Hooded protesters played cat and mouse with the police
The "Krone" ended the recording at this moment, but was not discouraged in its further reporting and later accompanied a masked group in their cat-and-mouse game with the police, away from the ban on the square, namely behind the town hall. Dressed all in black, the demonstrators lit a Bengal fire and blocked Landesgerichtsstraße with their spontaneous march.
A "Krone" reporter who was at the scene: "We are appalled that our work of documenting rallies is being made more difficult because of individual demonstrators who think it is legitimate to attack and intimidate journalists just because we are doing our job."
According to a statement from the Vienna executive, the evening was "peaceful and there were no major incidents". There were only "a few identity checks".
