Hit by streetcar: Girl’s life still in danger

After the streetcar accident in Vienna-Favoriten on Wednesday, the nine-year-old victim is still in mortal danger. "The girl's condition is unchanged," said the Vienna Health Association on Friday. 

The child was hit by a streetcar on Wednesday and seriously injured. The schoolgirl had been walking home alone and had wanted to cross Quellenstraße when she was pushed down by the line 6 train. She suffered a polytrauma and was taken to hospital by an emergency helicopter after initial treatment on the spot.

Emergency braking could not prevent accident
According to witnesses, the girl was probably crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing when the traffic light for pedestrians was red while it was green for the streetcar. Emergency braking could not prevent the accident.
