Multiple hit and runs
Series of serious ski accidents just won’t stop
On Thursday, the rescue services and emergency helicopters were once again in constant use in the Tyrolean ski resorts. There were numerous skiing accidents with injuries and several hit-and-run drivers.
A collision between a 60-year-old skier from Belgium and an unknown skier occurred on red piste no. 5 in the Hochzillertal ski area at around 10.40 am. The 60-year-old was hit from behind, fell and was seriously injured. The stranger skied on without looking after the injured man.
Belgian flown to hospital by helicopter
The Heli 4 emergency helicopter flew the Belgian to Innsbruck Hospital. The hit-and-run driver is probably a boy between 10 and 14 years old, presumably also Belgian.
Dutchman broke his thigh
At 11 a.m., a 74-year-old Dutch skier and an unknown skier collided in the "Skijuwel - Alpbachtal/Wildschönau" ski area. The latter continued his journey without stopping and the Dutchman broke his left thigh. He was flown to Schwaz hospital.
Internal injuries sustained
At around 12.15 p.m., there was a collision between a Belgian skier (48) and an unknown snowboarder on the Hochalter in Kühtai. The Belgian skier fell and suffered internal injuries. The Martin 2 emergency helicopter flew him to hospital in Zams.
