Nika Prevc was crowned world champion on the normal hill on Friday. Austria's women came away empty-handed, however, with Eva Pinkelnig finishing seventh as the best ÖSV athlete.

The Austrians clearly missed out on the medals in the World Championships normal hill competition. Eva Pinkelnig only came seventh on Friday in Trondheim. Immediately behind her, Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, who was considered to be stronger, came eighth. Gold was secured by pot favorite Nika Prevc from Slovenia in front of a sparse crowd. The 19-year-old World Cup dominator clearly won ahead of Germany's Selina Freitag and Norwegian local hero Anna Odine Ström.

Lisa Eder finished eleventh and Julia Mühlbacher 20th. The Austrians will be able to strike back in the team competition on Saturday. However, things did not go according to plan in the singles, Pinkelnig's gap to the podium was considerable. "If you make small mistakes, you're immediately a long way behind. All in all, I delivered a good competition," said Pinkelnig, already focusing on Saturday. "Now it's time to get together and be the best team tomorrow," said the 2023 World Championship silver medallist. Prevc is an absolutely deserving world champion. "She's already jumping in a league of her own."

Seifriedsberger disappointed
Seifriedsberger, who was considered a medal contender due to her promising World Cup results, also had no reason to be happy as the rain set in. "It's a shame, you have to tick that off, it was obviously not my day. Of course I'm annoyed. Unfortunately it wasn't a good jump. I really underperformed, that hurts. It's a shame that you can't compete at the top," said the Upper Austrian. She was also already looking ahead to the team competition: "We still have plans."

Lisa Eder did not have a good day either. After a botched first attempt, the Salzburg native still managed to move up ten places from 21st with a good final jump. Mühlbacher, who was also nominated for the team competition, also had no chance.

Prevc withstood the pressure
Prevc, on the other hand, fulfilled the high expectations, winning the first individual World Championship medal for her successful ski jumping family after six World Cup victories in a row. "I'm just super happy that I made it. I'm glad that I withstood the pressure," said the newly crowned world champion.
