When intimate images end up online out of revenge
Violence has taken on new forms as a result of digitalization: One of these is so-called revenge porn. These are intimate images that are published without the consent of the person depicted and with the intention of harming them. A loophole in the law is now finally to be closed.
"Revenge porn" has long been a category of its own on relevant sites and the title of a phenomenon that has only become a growing problem in the last 20 years. Violence online is no longer a marginal phenomenon and can take many forms: Data theft, cyberbullying - or even revenge porn, in which intimate pictures or videos are distributed online. The victims are usually female and are intended to be humiliated by publishing them.
Often an ex-partner is behind it, who may even have been sent the images voluntarily when the relationship was still going well and they trusted each other. But there are also other scenarios, as the case of Fredi Ferkova shows:
