AK: Electricity costs to rise by 300 euros per household

Because the electricity price brake is coming to an end and both the electricity levy and the renewable energy subsidy will return to their previous levels, Austrian households will face higher electricity costs in the coming year.

"For an example household with an annual consumption of 2900 kWh of electricity and an electricity price of 15 cents/kWh (kilowatt hours), this would result in a net annual increase of EUR 334 in Upper Austria and EUR 318 in Linz," calculated the Chamber of Labor (AK) on Thursday.

"Do not disregard excess profits"
"It is high time that the outgoing federal government finally took measures to sustainably reduce energy prices and relieve the burden on consumers. The excess profits made by energy suppliers must not be ignored," said Andreas Stangl, President of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor, on Thursday.

Stangl demands that there should be no further surcharges for grid expansion and that the electricity levy should remain at the reduced level. The renewables subsidy should continue not to be levied and the renewables subsidy flat rate should remain at zero.
