Israel: 5 million dollars for every hostage released

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is offering a bonus of five million dollars (4.7 million euros) for every hostage taken by the terrorist militia Hamas in the Gaza Strip who is freed.

"Anyone who returns a hostage to us will find a safe way out of the Gaza Strip for him and his family," Netanyahu promised in a video filmed in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. "We will also pay a reward of five million dollars for each hostage," he explained.

The video was filmed in the Netzarim corridor in the north of the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by the Israeli army. In the footage, Netanyahu wears a helmet and a bulletproof vest and is accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Netanyahu wants to find "the living and the dead"
"We are also trying to locate the hostages and bring them back," Netanyahu continued. "We will do this until we have found them all: the living and the dead."

According to Israeli figures, 1,206 people were killed and 251 taken hostage in the unprecedented large-scale attack by Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups on Israel on October 7, 2023. Of the 97 hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip, 34 are believed to be dead, according to official Israeli reports.

At the weekend, demonstrators in Tel Aviv once again called on the government to reach an agreement to release the hostages.
