The new poker for the coveted casino licenses
Austria is the only EU country that still has a monopoly on gambling. However, other providers want to get involved in the market in this country too. At stake are coveted casino locations and online gambling.
Although the license does not expire until autumn 2027, lobbyists are already busy positioning themselves. Thomas Forstner from the OVWG association is calling for "Austria to liberalize and open up the market". Austrians bet almost 23 billion euros a year in (online) casinos and with sports betting providers.
