School express finally stops in Weitwörth again

The canceled early morning connection of the Salzburger Lokalbahn will return on Monday for schoolchildren and commuters. A decisive test on Tuesday was successful.

Exactly 6.39 a.m. will become an important time for pupils and commuters from Nußdorf from probably next Monday. This is because the local train stop in Nußdorf-Weitwörth in the direction of Salzburg main station will be resumed. This was canceled this year, resulting in protests from the population. The "Krone" reported in detail.

Regional Transport Councillor Stefan Schnöll and Nußdorf Mayor Waltraud Brandstetter (both ÖVP) fought tooth and nail for the connection from that point on. After tough negotiations, the express train, which arrives at the main station every day at 6.59 a.m., serves the stop again.

The stop in Weitwörth had been canceled as it had led to delays: on single-track sections, a delay causes a chain reaction for the other trains.

Due to its importance for schoolchildren and commuters, an experiment was carried out for the express train with shifts in the minute range. This was successful on Tuesday, which is why the stop will be resumed, Schnöll confirms with relief. One fly in the ointment remains: It will remain the only express that stops in Weitwörth.
