S-Bahn stop finally accessible on both sides

After a tough struggle, the time has finally come: the Hallein district of Burgfried is getting a connection that is accessible on both sides - 3,000 residents and hundreds of employees in the industrial estate there will benefit.

The extension of the S-Bahn stop in Hallein-Burgfried has been a bone of contention for many years. Unfortunately for the businesses and around 3,000 residents in the district, the train stop was previously only accessible from the east side. The extension failed due to the costs of 2.8 million euros for the extension of the passenger tunnel and access from both sides.

The construction project started last Wednesday. Most of the costs are being covered by ÖBB and the state of Salzburg. AustroCel and "Werk Hallein" are also contributing, as is the town of Hallein. The last remaining gap in the financing of around 300,000 euros is likely to be covered by the state.

Initially, the platform will be extended by 30 meters. The passenger tunnel itself will only be worked on afterwards - while the trains thunder overhead. "Our construction teams are working without interrupting rail operations," says ÖBB. Access should be ready by the end of July 2025.
