Actor and singer James Darren is dead. Darren died on Monday at the age of 88 in a clinic in Los Angeles, according to his website. 

His son Jim Moret told the Hollywood Reporter that he had wanted to have his aortic valve replaced but was too weak. "I always thought he would make it because he was so cool. He was always cool," Jim Moret was quoted as saying.

"Have a good trip"
Singer Nancy Sinatra, daughter of entertainer Frank Sinatra (1915-1998), posted photos of James Darren on the X platform and wrote: "I wish him a quick and beautiful journey through the universe and beyond. Bon voyage, dear Jimmy."

According to the post, Darren was the godfather of Sinatra's daughter AJ.

Successful as an actor
Darren played alongside William Shatner and Heather Locklear in the US police TV series "T.J. Hooker", among others.

He also had a role in many other series - including the science fiction formats "Time Tunnel" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". With the song "Goodbye Cruel World", he made it to number 3 in the Billboard charts in 1961.
