Where a day of swimming on Lake Neusiedl becomes a luxury

In the seaside resort of Lignano on the Italian Adriatic, you have to pay between 21 and 23 euros for a single day at the beach - for two sun loungers in the first three rows. Many people think that's completely exorbitant and stay at home. But even at Lake Neusiedl, the sea of the Viennese, nothing is given for free.

First things first: if you want to save money, you shouldn't just head off into the blue, but compare the costs in advance, as the prices at the lidos around the 320 km² Burgenland-Hungarian steppe lake vary greatly. The "Krone" newspaper sent a fictitious family of four, consisting of mother, father, a primary school child and a teenager, for a swim - and found out: The price differences are enormous and amount to more than 30 euros!
