Wild chase ends in handcuffs

A "cross-border" chase from Burgenland to Lower Austria caused wild scenes on the southern highway on Monday. A man was arrested near Leobersdorf in the district of Baden. 

After two criminals had fled after numerous burglaries in Burgenland, officers from Lower Austria were also hot on the criminals' heels. From the neighboring province, they set off at full speed into the wide open country, where the handcuffs finally clicked for one of the two criminals.

The burglar was arrested by the police in the course of a manhunt near Leobersdorf in the district of Baden, the Burgenland Provincial Police Directorate confirmed in response to an inquiry by the "Krone" newspaper. The two perpetrators are said to have previously committed burglaries at various locations in Burgenland and were caught in the act.

Eyewitnesses reported a possible accident between the fleeing driver and a police patrol. Details were not disclosed due to the ongoing investigation.
