Politics & baby: “You can’t do it without support”

In parliament with a baby? A member of parliament in Styria recently showed that this is possible. However, there is still a lack of regulations, particularly at municipal level, to enable fathers and mothers to take parental leave. How do politically committed young parents manage this?

Johanna was six weeks old when she saw the Styrian state parliament from the inside for the first time. She accompanied her mother Julia Majcan (ÖVP) to the last session of the state parliament. "I skipped two sessions before that, one when I was heavily pregnant and one straight after giving birth," says the MP from Bad Radkersburg. "I wanted to be present again before the summer break."
