Pensioner (84) floated lifeless in Lake Wörthersee

A swimming trip ended in tragedy for a couple from Klagenfurt on Wednesday afternoon. While swimming in Lake Wörthersee, an 84-year-old lost consciousness and had to be resuscitated.

When the 84-year-old entered the water just a few moments before his girlfriend, nobody could have expected that a large-scale operation would be triggered just a few moments later on the private beach in Pörtschach. The woman noticed the Klagenfurt suddenly floating lifelessly in the water.

Emergency doctor provided first aid
Friends of the couple immediately rushed to help and pulled the 84-year-old out of the water. An emergency doctor who happened to be present supported the rescue operation and began resuscitation measures. "After the arrival of the police patrol, the resuscitation measures were continued with the defibrillator from the Pörtschach police station," according to the provincial police directorate. 

After the 84-year-old was resuscitated by the C11 rescue helicopter team, the casualty was flown to the hospital in Klagenfurt.
