Energie AG pulls the plug on an entire housing estate

It is a very Austrian story that took place recently in Lenzing in Upper Austria. The residents of a housing estate built 27 years ago received a letter from Energie AG. The content was a shock and caused anger among the residents. The company terminated the heating supply contracts - out of the blue.

The curious thing is that the estate had been heated for 27 years with a temporary solution. When it was built, it was assumed that district heating would be used in future. However, until there were enough end customers, direct electricity heating was used to provide cozy warmth. Over the past 27 years, the temporary solution was repeatedly extended by five years. Now, however, Energie AG has pulled the plug on its customers and terminated the temporary arrangement.
