SMS fraudsters pretend to be a daughter

A woman from Salzburg (57) was the victim of SMS fraudsters. The strangers sent the woman text messages in which they pretended to be her daughter. The victim transferred more than 2000 euros to the perpetrators.

The instructions in the text message were clear: the 57-year-old was to save the number in her cell phone and reply to the sender - allegedly her daughter. In the subsequent conversation, the fraudsters asked the woman to transfer an amount of more than two thousand euros to a foreign bank account because her daughter was supposedly in trouble.

The 57-year-old believed the fraudsters, went to her bank and transferred the requested amount. It was only when the perpetrators demanded further payments that the woman from Salzburg became suspicious and filed a complaint.
