Peter Stöger: “There is no alternative to promotion!”

Admira's sporting director Peter Stöger looks back on his first season in Südstadt and talks about the squad planning and objectives for the coming season.

"We wanted to play a better role than last year with a similar squad, and we succeeded. But..."

Well, Admira didn't have a deciding game this time around, but Peter Stöger was only partially satisfied with his first season as sporting director of the Südstädter. "The results didn't always match the performances, offensively we have some catching up to do."

They are working on this during the transfer window. Also because Stöger is true to his word and wants to be among the front runners with Admira next season. "With the effort we are putting in, there is no alternative to promotion - the academy and infrastructure have to be financed, and the 2nd division is not enough."

Stöger is fine-tuning the squad that will stand up to favorites Ried. Malicsek, Ristanic and El Moukhantir have already been extended, Vorsager, Rasner and goalkeeper Haas have offers, Zwierschitz, Teigl and Schmidt are the most prominent departures. Schöller is likely to follow. "We're just a passenger," says Stöger in view of the €500,000 exit clause. It remains to be seen whether Anderson and Oluwayemi will stay or new Celitc loanees will arrive.

Stöger was seen at LASK on Friday. "It wasn't about me," he waved off, "but about possible reinforcements for us." We will undoubtedly need some of those.
