Austria’s dream of promotion finally shattered

Austria Salzburg will not play in the 2nd division next season. The Permanent Court of Neutral Arbitration dismissed the Violets' appeal on Friday. This means that the team from the city will have to remain in the Westliga, where they are on course for the title. 

The Permanent Neutral Court of Arbitration met in Vienna in the presence of the board and presidium of Salzburg Austria. It came to a quick verdict: complaint dismissed! This means that the Violets' dream of a place in the second division is finally over.

Decision came too late
The reason was quickly found: Due to the ban on updating documents, the building notice simply arrived 14 days too late. "We are going back to Salzburg with a broken heart. We are very sorry for all Austrian players," sighed chairman David Rettenbacher. 

In addition to Austria, Leoben were also disappointed on Friday, having to return to the Regionalliga Mitte. Dornbirn had already failed to gain admission to the second division on Thursday and will therefore face Austria Salzburg in the Regionalliga West next season.
