Two murder suspects arrested in Upper Austria

Police in Upper Austria succeeded in arresting two internationally wanted murder suspects in Hohenzell (district of Ried im Innkreis) on Monday.

The two Indian nationals are strongly suspected of having brutally murdered another Indian citizen in the British town of Shrewsbury on August 21, 2023, together with seven other Indians, according to the Upper Austrian State Criminal Police Office on Tuesday morning.

Connection to Upper Austria
Five suspects have already been arrested in Great Britain. Four perpetrators were each sentenced to 28 years' unconditional imprisonment for murder and one perpetrator was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for manslaughter. The other four suspects managed to escape, whereby one suspect was suspected to have a possible connection to Upper Austria and the British authorities therefore contacted the target search group of the Upper Austrian Provincial Criminal Police Office via Interpol Vienna.

The investigators from the Upper Austrian Criminal Police Office were able to identify and track down the suspect with a possible connection to Upper Austria and another suspect accompanying him - who was not initially believed to be in Austria. Both suspects were taken to the Ried/Innkreis prison for extradition detention.
