Government supports Ukraine with 5 million euros

The German government will release aid payments of five million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund at the upcoming Council of Ministers on Wednesday. The money will be used to rebuild Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has been severely damaged after more than two years of war, the Climate Protection Ministry announced on Monday.

Leonore Gewessler's (Greens) ministry had already made ten million euros available last year.

Ambassador praises "signal of solidarity"
"As a neutral country, Austria also has an obligation to stand on the side of humanity in this war," said Gewessler. The money was intended to make a contribution to "at least somewhat simplify" the reconstruction. The Ukrainian ambassador to Austria, Wassyl Chymynez, expressed his thanks for a "strong signal of solidarity".

"Against the backdrop of Russian efforts to destroy the energy infrastructure in Ukraine through air strikes and artillery fire, this financial assistance from the federal government is extremely important in order to restore energy infrastructure facilities and supply the people of Ukraine with electricity," said Chymynez.

The money comes from the budget of the Ministry of Climate Protection. The money will be distributed in Ukraine via the Energy Community and used to procure urgently needed spare parts, generators and to repair power lines.
