Google to get unexpected new competition
In the USA, the ChatGPT developer OpenAI is apparently planning to announce a new AI-powered search engine on Monday. This was reported by two people familiar with the matter. However, nothing has been officially announced yet.
The announcement could come a day before the start of Google's annual conference on Tuesday, where the tech giant is expected to unveil a range of AI-related products. OpenAI declined to comment.
Bloomberg and The Information had previously reported that Microsoft-backed OpenAI is working on a search engine that could potentially compete with Alphabet's Google and with Perplexity, a well-funded AI search startup.
OpenAI's new search engine is an extension of its flagship product ChatGPT, according to media reports, and will allow ChatGPT to pull information directly from the web and incorporate citations.
