Nazi comparison
Trump calls Biden’s US government the “Gestapo”
Former US President Donald Trump has compared the current government under President Joe Biden to the Gestapo. The inglorious Nazi comparison was apparently part of a lengthy tirade at a private fundraising event.
"These people are running a Gestapo government," Trump said at a private fundraiser at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Saturday, US media reported, citing audio recordings and witness statements. The Secret State Police (Gestapo) was the political police force of the Nazi regime between 1933 and 1945.
Trump talks himself into a rage
The Nazi comparison was part of a longer rant in which Trump accused the Biden administration of being behind the four criminal proceedings that are now underway against him in various US states. "In their opinion, this is the only way to win," Trump added.
Trump wants to be re-elected President of the USA in November - his opponent is likely to be the Democratic incumbent Biden (81). The 77-year-old Republican is currently on trial in New York in connection with hush money payments to a porn star.
It is the first criminal trial against a former US president in the history of the United States. Even after a possible conviction - and even in the event of a prison sentence - Trump is likely to run in the presidential election.
