Head-on collision with truck: driver (69) dies in crash
A head-on accident on the S5 near Grunddorf in the Lower Austrian district of Krems ended in tragedy on Friday: for unknown reasons, a truck and trailer crashed into a car in the morning. All help came too late for the driver (69).
A truck and trailer collided head-on with a car on the S5 near Grunddorf. The fire department, emergency services and police immediately rushed to the scene of the accident. Despite the rapid arrival of the emergency services, it was too late to help the driver of the car. The 69-year-old died at the scene of the accident.
The approximately 47-year-old Czech truck driver was transported to hospital by the ambulance service with injuries of indeterminate severity.
Car badly demolished
The fire department took over the recovery of the two vehicles. The woman's car was badly demolished in the head-on collision. First aiders were on the scene immediately and provided first aid. They are now receiving psychological support.
The police are still investigating how the head-on crash occurred. The S5 was closed in both directions for several hours.
