Wall scrawl announces attack at Donauzentrum

A terrorist threat has been made against the Donauzentrum in Vienna-Donaustadt. A wall scrawl written in bad German announced an attack for Tuesday evening, the wording suggesting an Islamist background. "It is important to note that the matter is being taken very seriously, but that no panic should be caused," police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger told the "Krone" newspaper.

The picture, which was leaked to the "Krone", showed numerous insults as well as the terror threat. "Islam will win" was written on the wall. "We are taking the threat seriously, the State Office for State Protection and Counter-Extremism (LSE) is investigating," said the police on Tuesday when asked. The operating company of the "Westfield Donauzentrum" informed employees about the threat in two letters on Monday.

Shopping center remains open anyway
On the one hand, it was emphasized that the shopping center would remain open on Tuesday and, on the other hand, that there was initially no cause for concern for the employees because they were strictly adhering to the police's instructions. Nevertheless, Haßlinger emphasizes: "In close cooperation with the LSE, the situation will of course be continuously assessed and further measures may be taken in the event of a concrete risk situation." 

As a "Krone" reader reporter reported on Tuesday afternoon, a number of stores were nevertheless closed. "I was surprised. Only when I asked did I find out that there was a terror warning."
