Fall back to 3rd place
Altach girls concede a bitter home defeat
Ouch! The 2-0 home defeat against Vienna was Altach's second Bundesliga defeat in a row. Something that hasn't happened to the Vorarlberg club for a long time. The last time they lost two games in a row was in October 2021, when they first lost to Vienna and then to St. Pölten
"What went for us in the fall is perhaps going against us a little at the moment," said Altach coach Berni Summer after his women were beaten 2-0 at home by Vienna and were thus pushed into third place by the Vienna side with the same number of points. "In the first half of the season, we had the necessary bit of luck against both Vienna and Neulengbach and won both games with goals in stoppage time."
"Unnecessary defeat"
And it is precisely this luck that Summer's team has not had so far this spring. After a goalless and uneventful first half, the Rheindörfler started like a shot from a gun. First Rieke Tietz missed in front of Vienna goalkeeper Christina Schönwetter, shortly afterwards Maria Olsen only hit the crossbar. Almost on the counterattack (52'), Claudia Wasser scored for Vienna to give them the lead, which Ländle export Patricia Pfanner increased to 2:0 in minute 57. "We were very clumsy defensively, which is why it was an unnecessary defeat," analyzed Summer.
Rheindörflerinnen as hunters again
Altach must now pick up one more point than the Viennese side in the final four rounds if they want to finish second and achieve the Champions League qualifying place that was their goal for the season.
