Hoeneß reveals: Rangnick only Bayern’s 3rd choice!

Uli Hoeneß has now revealed that Ralf Rangnick is only the third choice for Germany's record champions! 

During a panel discussion in the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" on Friday, the honorary president of Munich revealed that Bayern had initially made their offer to Leverkusen's mastermind Xabi Alonso and then to Germany's team manager Julian Nagelsmann. Only when these two declined was the current ÖFB team boss contacted.

"We have never spoken to three coaches at the same time," Hoeneß explained. "When we talk to someone, you have to give him the feeling that he is the man. If he says yes, then it's perfect. If he says no, then it continues." This is how Bayern finally came to Rangnick after two rejections.

The ÖFB team boss is currently weighing up his decision. Hoeneß assumes that the 65-year-old will make a decision in the next few days. "I think a yes or a no will come within a week," predicted the 72-year-old supervisory board member and former FC Bayern manager.

Hoeneß also described the speculation and reports about the status of the Munich team's search for a coach as a "hunt that is going on every day" and added that preparations for the new season would not begin until July 1. He denied reports that Bayern had negotiated with former world footballer Zinedine Zidane. "I am convinced that no one has spoken to him."
