Suspected IS attacks in Syria claim 28 lives
According to activists, at least 28 people have been killed in suspected attacks by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia in Syria.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 22 Syrian soldiers and allied fighters were killed in an attack on a military bus on Friday night. Seven people were injured in the attack near the town of Al-Taibah in the eastern part of the country.
According to the activists, six Syrian soldiers were killed in another attack in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor. There are said to have been further casualties. Two soldiers were also reportedly captured by the terrorists.
No solution to the conflict in sight
Initially, no group claimed responsibility for the attacks. The Syrian Observatory suspects that IS is responsible. The terrorist militia controlled large areas in Syria and Iraq years ago and is now considered militarily defeated. However, IS cells are still active in both countries and carry out attacks. The civil war in Syria began in spring 2011 with protests against the government. The government took violent action against them. A political solution to the conflict is not in sight.
