New genre on stage
Landestheater focuses on the young audience
Adventure, but with responsibility, please! This was the motto under which the Salzburg State Theatre presented its new program for the 2024/2025 season on Thursday, with a particular focus on young audiences. After all, children and young people already make up around 25 percent of the audience at the Salzburg State Theater.
So it is hardly surprising that social media will even make it onto the stage in the coming season. For example in the play "WhatsApp Stories". Author and director Ronnie Brodetzky deals exclusively with short messages and voice messages from soccer team, parent and family chat groups, among others. The audience changes rapidly with the protagonists through the multi-layered emotional worlds.
The virtual world is also the focus of the musical "Mindcraft". Based on a well-known computer game, the musical version is also about the multi-layered world of online games. In-house composer Carolin Anna Pichler creates her own musical framework for it. Those who prefer classic musicals can look forward to "Hair" and "The Rocky Horror Show", among others, in the coming season.
A completely new approach is taken with "Hip-Hopera" - a mixture of opera and hip hop. Spoken word meets classical orchestral music in "The Endz". Directors Christine Arnold and Patricia Pfisterer are staging the contemporary work. The target audience here too: Clearly young people.
