Four political parties in Hollabrunn are united across the board: the planned mega residential building with two underground garages should never have been approved by the city - the waterlogged subsoil has already caused problems for other buildings. In a joint list of questions, the opposition is now demanding transparency and clarification from the ÖVP.

It was a cloak-and-dagger operation: dental technician Valtentin Späth moved out of the damaged house next to the major construction site in Hollabrunn with all his equipment - the "Krone" reported. Just in time, because the gas was turned off the next day as the cracks and faults were too big. "As a dental laboratory, just one day of downtime would have been a disaster," he explains: "It was the right decision, because my equipment relies on gas."

Dental technician Valentin Späth moved voluntarily - along with all his equipment - to a replacement location within one night.

He is not even thinking about reimbursing the costs of the swift and meticulously prepared action of almost 40,000 euros. What is more annoying for him is: "Others had to leave on the spot. In my case, the municipality was responsible, but they strictly ruled out any dangerous situation"

Opposition united against the mayor
As this is not the first building site where the mayor has not made a good name for himself as the building authority of first instance, the opposition has now had enough: on Friday morning, all parties signed an open letter to Babinsky on the "Living City" building project.

The tenor of the four-page document: "The residents felt that their concerns were not taken seriously from the outset, and there was little or no response to their objections." The document concludes with 17 questions demanding "clarification with complete transparency" from Mayor Babinsky.

The (construction) risk from water was known to many
In addition, more and more facts about the site are becoming known: In the past, for example, the first outdoor swimming pool, including a side pool, was in the ground at today's large construction site. "This means that the area has always been permeated by water," says another local resident: "Just look at Bahnstraße further away. The houses there are also so crooked that you can clearly see it from the outside."
