“Fire has gone out”: End of career at the age of 26

Upper Austrian Elisa Mörzinger celebrated her World Cup debut on October 26, 2019, but just five years later, the giant slalom specialist is now surprisingly ending her career. However, the 26-year-old still has one race on her calendar.

"Ending something that you've done and loved for so long is extremely hard. I've been wrestling with the decision since December, but the fire for skiing is no longer burning and I no longer feel any joy!"

With these words, Elisa Mörzinger surprisingly announced her retirement on Instagram on Wednesday. At just 26 years old, the Mühlviertel native is putting her skis in the corner. "It's been an incredible time, but now I'm ready for something new," said Mörzinger, who celebrated her World Cup debut in Sölden on October 26, 2019.

One last race
Her greatest successes include a second place in the parallel giant slalom in Sestriere in January 2020 and winning the RTL national championships. Speaking of which: Mörzinger will also be competing in her last race at the red-white-red championships on April 9 on the Reiteralm.
