Amazement on Easter Monday
“Not an April Fool’s joke”: 28 degrees measured in Austria
"This is no April Fool's joke," asserted the Austrian Weather Center (uwz) on Easter Monday. After the 25-degree mark was broken in Austria on Holy Saturday, it was even 28.5 degrees in Vienna today. This makes it the next summer day this year.
The current temperature difference in Austria is remarkable: while Vienna recorded 28.5 degrees on Monday according to ORF meteorologist Manuel Oberhuber and 28 degrees west of Vienna in the Tullnerfeld, Salzburg recorded only 8.3 degrees according to GeoSphere Austria.
Significantly cooler in the west of the country
In the southwest and far west, on the other hand, it is raining widely and sometimes heavily, especially in the southern conurbation. It is much colder there with temperatures between 8 and 13 degrees.
Easter Monday is therefore another summer day this year. Clearly too early, because in an average year the first summer day of the year occurs in mid-April.
Incidentally, the earliest summer day in Austria's measurement history was recorded on March 18, 2004 (25.3 degrees in Pottschach, Lower Austria), according to GeoSphere Austria.
