"Nothing came back!"
Former star offered Thiem help – and was ignored!
Dominic Thiem's sporting decline continues to generate discussion and sympathy: Philipp Kohlschreiber, a former German tennis pro, has now made people sit up and take notice by revealing that he offered Thiem his help to regain his former strength - but that this help was coldly ignored ...
"I offered myself once, spoke to his brother Moritz and said: If you're up for it, I'll come to Vienna. We can play tennis for however many days, just for old times' sake. And if you feel like it, you can ask me at the end what I think of the training, his balls, his topspin, his stroke speed," said Kohlschreiber in his role as an expert for "Sky" during the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami.
"I wouldn't offer myself again now!"
However, the reaction to the offer from Kohlschreiber, who won two out of three singles duels with Austria's 2020 US Open winner and made it to 16th place in the ATP world rankings, was a non-reaction. "Nothing came back!" said the 40-year-old German, who is keen not to be miffed about it. "It's all good," said Kohlschreiber, adding that the offer still stands, "but I wouldn't offer myself again now."
Thiem plans to compete in Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome and Paris
Meanwhile, Thiem himself has published an intensive tournament schedule on his website. In addition to Estoril (from Easter Monday) and Munich (from April 15), where he will receive a wild card, the world number 90 would also like to take part in the Masters 1000 tournaments in Monte Carlo (April 7), Madrid (April 24) and Rome (May 8). After his appearance at the Foro Italico, Thiem will compete at the French Open in Paris.
The 30-year-old also announced that there will be behind-the-scenes insights on his YouTube channel. "The multi-life vlog by Dominic Thiem" is advertised there. "I am Dominic Thiem. And for you, I'm the tennis pro. The sportsman. But am I just that? Or MORE?" it says, among other things.
