Hütter cheered at the end
Ball to Hütter: “Gut-Behrami was too sure”
A cinematic final! With the first home victory in a downhill since Christine Scheyer in 2017, ÖSV lady Cornelia Hütter caught Lara Gut-Behrami, who was actually comfortably in the lead. "I think Lara was too confident," says former ski racer Markus Wasmeier.
Gut-Behrami's next triumph after the overall World Cup, giant slalom and super-G seemed to be just a formality last Saturday in Saalbach. But Conny Hütter raced sensationally to victory and Gut-Behrami made a decisive mistake with 17th place. The downhill globe went to the Austrian after all.
"It's not quite a concert of wishes. You have to stay focused until the very last second," emphasized Wasmeier on "Sport und Talk im Hangar 7".
"It didn't look like that"
The 60-year-old German says: "I think she was too sure. I can only imagine it that way, because normally I know Lara to always go full throttle." Postscript: "It didn't look like that when she was skiing."
