ÖSV lady quits: “Took away my joy”

Christine Scheyer draws a line under it. After ten years in the World Cup, she announces her retirement from active skiing: "The decision wasn't easy for me, but I've been struggling with knee pain for over a year and it has simply taken away the motivation and joy of skiing that I always had at the start." 

"Without being one hundred percent fit, it's no longer possible for me to push myself to the limit, as I would like to and as I need to in order to perform at the top of my sport," explains Scheyer. This season, she has not achieved more than two 18th places.

After 88 World Cup races, the 29-year-old from Vorarlberg has now decided to put her racing skis in the corner and reorient herself.

Future unclear
"Where my next journey will take me is still open, but I'm looking forward to a new chapter in my life and the exciting challenges that await me," says Scheyer. She successfully completed her business studies last year. 

Victory in Zauchensee and many injuries
Since her World Cup debut in December 2014, the speed specialist has achieved a total of 13 top 10 results in the World Cup and celebrated one of her greatest successes in Zauchensee in 2017 with her World Cup victory in the downhill. The athlete from Götzn was set back by many injuries during her sporting career. Now a new chapter in her life beckons.
